  • What is UV Ozone?

Ozone is an activated oxygen similar to oxygen bleach that breaks down odorous molecules, which wethen flush from your home.

There are three different types of ozone, but UV Ozone is the only non-acidic form that deep-cleans without harsh residual effects.

  • Isn't "Ozone" Damaging?

Industrial Ozone used in disaster remediation, can leave a pungent nitrous acidic residue that can caus damage. This is why Smoke-Busters only remediates with pure, non-acidic, Ultraviolet Ozone. This can damage no materials except that it will age natural latex items like rubber mattresses which can be safely protected with plastic sheeting.

Ozone remediation can be fatal to plants and animals, though, so they must be removed before remediation, though fish tanks and plants can be protected with plastic sheeting if needed. But once we complete our process, the home is fresh and safe for use.

  • Competition?

Remdiation companies may charge a small fortune to eliminate tobacco odors, not to mention, their solutions can leave residual odor behind. One major remediation company claims that there no "magic" machines will remove tough smells, so you must use costly measures - after all, it's their bread and butter. But we have a more efficient and effective solution that doesn't involve industrial ozone, harsh chemicals, or side effects.

  • Does it take a Nuclear Chemist?

Well, no, but it helps. Owner Joe Chasko has degrees in Chemistry and Physics and Physical Chemistry. He was the team nuclear chemist on an CARB research project at UC Davis Crocker Nuclear Laboratory studying impacts of air pollution with radiotracers. He also produced the first radiolabeled glucose that is now used in brain scans. He used his research experience to develop a reliable, clean process to remove home odors, pollutants, and allergens, and pathogens.

  • How did Smoke-Busters get started?

    A Nightmarish Drain Leak

Smoke-Busters was created after a nightmarish experience by the founder's family. A drain leak formed a large pool of water beneath the floor, and black and white mold spread and grew on all nearby wooden surfaces. After thoroughly drying the crawlspace, mold spores infiltrated the home through plumbing and electrical penetrations, creating a noticeable sharp, mildew-like spore odor. Four out of eight family members, including a toddler, developed bronchitis within a month!

Joe found he had to kill spores under and in the house, and even in the attic, to completely eliminate health impacts. Afterwards the subfloor no longer had a mildewy odor, and smelled like nice fresh tilled earth, but Joe also sealed penetrations with foam to be sure. There has been no return of respiratory problems in the ten years since, except for a pneumonia suffered by Joe from recently-spreading Candida spores.

It bears mentioning that the ozone used was Electric ozone, and Joe found decades of green corrosion on the copper pipes, and the zinc on the screws of the ozone machine turned into white powder. That's why he uses expensive UV ozone generators that cause no damage.

  • Are mold spores dangerous?

Fungi spores can be dangerous leading to Bronchitis, or simpy runny noses or wheezing. Molds like Aspergillus can even lead to the severe illness Aspergillosis, and Valley Fever is a continuous spore threat around the Sacramento Valley. Candida auris spores have recently spread through U.S health care facilities and homes - leading to a debilitating six-month, pneumonia suffered by its founder, Joe Chasko in 2019-20.
